Video Sandbox 109: He is
Posted by Frank PetrieIt was on a day, much like this, that I was brought into this world. By sheer coincidence, I was born that day , as well. I arrived without a stitch of clothing on my back and no money, primarily because I had no pockets.

Inside MobileMe: Mac and PC cloud sync and mobile push
MobileMe is advertised as push messaging service, so some users were disappointed to find that some desktop updates may take as long as fifteen minutes to find their way up to the cloud. However, the service does also support push IMAP email as well as full desktop push updates from the cloud, at least on Mac OS X. Here's how Apple's service works with the client software on desktop Macs and PCs and on the iPhone. Continues: Inside MobileMe: Mac and PC cloud sync and mobile push

Found Footage: 'I Am Rich' walk through
Filed under: Humor, Found Footage, iPhone, App Store [YouTube link] Apparently, eight people actually bought the famed "I Am Rich" iPhone application. If you weren't rich stupid lucky enough to buy the app, or if you are merely curious what the fuss was all about -- the above "guided tour" is for you. I'll admit, I've found this whole saga pretty unfunny thus far. Don't misunderstand me, I get the joke, the whole thing has just struck me as easy and lacking any real point. Call me puerile, but I had to laugh at this video. The line that got me, "notice how 'deserve' is fashionably [misspelled]." Classic. Thanks Neil!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

SanDisk's Sansa Fuze clearly rubbed off on Newsmy's M521+
Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video We can't (with a clean conscience) carelessly fling Newsmy's M521+ into the KIRF pile -- though we'd sure love to. It's hard impossible to miss the design cues ripped directly from SanDisk's Sansa Fuze, though the unit does have just enough uniqueness to keep it from being a bona fide clone. Reportedly, the device packs an FM tuner, FM transmitter, support for MP3 / WMA / APE / FLAC / AVI formats, a photo / text viewer and an interface that we wouldn't let our worst enemies use. Oh wait, is that the iTunes logo? Is it too late to reconsider that whole KIRF eligibility thing.[Via PMPToday]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Apple's iPhone Takes a Toll
Last year, when Apple unveiled its iPhone and made it available in the U.S. exclusively from AT&T, the debut sent ripples throughout the cell phone industry. Handset maker Palm suffered as consumers swooned for Apple's phone, according to surveys by consultancy NPD. AT&T benefited by pulling subscribers from rival carriers Alltel and T-Mobile USA. So, will Apple's new phone, the iPhone 3G, have a similar effect? Early evidence since the new device's July 11 debut suggests it will have even broader impact, in part because the entry-level model sells for $199.

Free Office Suites, Mac and the Enterprise
Both StarOffice 9 and OpenOffice.org 3 will offer an office suite of tools compatible with Microsoft Office. Both are based on the same code base, and both will be native on the Mac, no longer requiring X11. Sun's Louis Suarez-Potts explained the key differences to TMO and what the customer should know before selecting one or the other. The first thing we should know is that both products are based on the same code base and one can use each product on the Mac interchangeably. The key differences are in the branding, packaging and support.

PwnageTool 2.0.2 is live
Filed under: iPod Family, Hacks, iPhone Erica took a look at Pwnage 2.0 recently, recommending that "casual jailbreakers" wait patiently for the kinks to be worked out. Well, Pwnage 2.0.2 has dropped while most of us in American are sleeping. Well, some of us, anyway. Meanwhile, the iPhone-dev team released the much-anticipated update with ninja stealth. The iPhone-dev team recommends using the built in updater to get the latest version ... "Check for Updates" in your current version of PwnageTool. If you don't have luck with that, there are mirrors posted in the release announcement, along with notes regarding Installer.app/Cydia:"Installer 4 Beta is included, it is added in any mode by default. The main installer package management interface within PwnageTool isn't enabled yet, and will report that installer.app isn't available, but the actual Installer.app package is added as a default option in both modes.""The latest Cydia is also enabled by default."Happy jailbreaking, and the usual disclaimers apply: back up your data, use at your own risk, and remember that Apple does not support software like PwnageTool. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
