  • New UK Retail Store opens this Saturday

Filed under: Retail, AppleHear ye, hear ye Britons! If you were wondering when the much-delayed Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes retail store was opening, you can wonder no more, for this Saturday the store is throwing open its doors for the first time. ifoAppleStore (the site in the know about all things Apple Retail) points to 'mis-sized glass' causing the store's opening to slip well past the intended pre-Christmas opening. As with all Apple Store openings, there's a "Digital Lifestyle Collection" of a black MacBook and silver iPod nano to be won, with the first thousand people through the door nabbing a free T-shirt.The store opens at 9.30am this Saturday, 1st March. If you're attending, do send us your reports (and maybe watch for a TUAW operative amongst the sheep queue-rs) -- here's to hoping you manage to bag a T-shirt!Thanks to all those who sent this in!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

  • Ausgezeichnet! Apple's first German retail store opening Saturday

Filed under: RetailIt's been in the building phase for a while, and now the date is set: Saturday should see the opening of Germany's first official Apple Store, on Rosenstraße in beautiful Munich. No word yet on whether the German retail employees will be applauding and cheering the first customers at 10 am, but we sure hope so. Perhaps the commemorative t-shirts will be printed with "Hallo, Ich Bin Ein Mac." Coverage (auf Deutsch) of the press opener is here, and a very nice Flickr set of photos from inside the store is here. If you are attending the Saturday store opening, send in your reports in the comments. Thanks Yosi, Killian and Chris!TUAWAusgezeichnet! • Analyst Roundup: Black Friday pretty good for Apple

Filed under: Apple FinancialApple met or beat analyst expectations for sales over the weekend, selling 13 Macs and 3.4 iPhones every hour, according to one Piper Jaffray estimate. Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu said that Apple's Black Friday promotions helped drive retail store traffic, according to reports from distributors. Wu also noted that the iPod touch is sold out at Amazon.com, which leads him to believe that Apple could sell $10 billion worth of products this quarter. Thomas Weisel Partners' Doug Reid got the impression that Apple sales were up from last year. He was less optimistic about Dell's retail performance at Best Buy locations, noting that salespeople there were not strongly recommending Dell models at 35 stores they checked. Weisel analysts expect Apple to sell 2.4 million Macs during the fourth quarter. Deutsche Bank analysts also conducted their own checks over the weekend, and found demand to be "solid," considering the current global economic woes. They expect Apple to sell 5 million iPhones this quarter, and reiterated their "buy" rating and price target of $150 per share. AAPL was down slightly in morning trading.TUAWAnalyst Roundup: Black Friday pretty good for Apple originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 12:00:00 EST.
